Enclosure
● Use a secure indoor enclosure with room to walk, turn, and explore.
● Avoid glass tanks if possible; opaque-sided enclosures work better.
● Provide at least one hide on the cool side.
● Use deep substrate cypress mulch throughout the enclosure. Add orchard moss on top of the mulch in the hide for humidity.
● Spray the cypress mulch in the morning to keep the humidity levels good.

Temperature
● Basking area: 95 to 100 F.
● Warm side: around 85 to 90 F.
● Cool side: around 75 to 80 F.
● Night temperature: keep above 70 F.
● Use a thermometer on both sides of the enclosure, not just one spot.

Humidity
● Baby sulcatas need higher humidity than adults.
● Aim for about 70 to 80% humidity for small juveniles.
● Mist the enclosure as needed and keep part of the substrate damp.
● A moist hide or damp moss area can help babies stay hydrated.

Lighting
● Provide UVB lighting every day.
● Keep the lights on about 10 hours daily.
● UVB should be strong enough for heat to reach the tortoise safely. Make sure the lamp is not too close to the tortoise's shell. A 75w UVB bulb works well.
● Replace bulbs on schedule so UVB output stays effective.
● Use ceramic bulbs for heat at night so the tortoises have the warmth they need when the UVB lights are off.

Feeding
● Feed fresh food twice daily.
● Base the diet on grasses, weeds, hay, and dark leafy greens.
● Good staples include collard greens, mustard greens, turnip greens, dandelion greens, bok choy, Bermudagrass, timothy hay, and orchard grass. dandelion flowers and hibiscus flowers and leaves are also good. Mazuri tortoise pellets soaked in water occasionally when they're young is healthy. Cut and soak hay when feeding it to babies. You can feed romaine lettuce for extra water. Romaine should not be their main food.
● Do not give babies fruit, high protein food, animal protein or pet food.
● Pieces of cuttlebones can be given for extra calcium.

Soaking and Hydration
● Soak babies in shallow warm water up to the chin.
● Soak about 15 to 20 minutes daily for young babies up to 1 yr. Soak 3 - 4 times per week for young tortoises.
● Always supervise soaking.
● Make sure fresh water is available in a shallow dish in their enclosure.

Cleaning and Health
● Remove old food and change water daily.
● Keep the enclosure clean.
Important Notes
● Do not keep baby sulcatas outdoors in cold, damp, or unsafe weather.
● Avoid uneven heating, cold nights, and low humidity.
● Do not feed a lettuce-only diet.
● These tortoises are lifelong commitment animals and become very large.
